A deadly accident remains under investigation as authorities try to piece together the events that led to a fatal motorcycle crash that ended the lives of two Massachusetts residents. The auto crash took place on Route 9 near Shrewsbury Commons. Upon early investigation, police believe that two individuals riding a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle collided with the rear of a 2010 Toyota Corolla.
When an enclosed vehicle is involved in an accident with a motorcycle, there can be little doubt as to which party will suffer the brunt of damage to both person and property. That was the case in this incident, as both the man and woman riding the motorcycle were unable to survive the injuries suffered during the crash. The woman, 22 years of age, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, 27 years of age, was rushed to an area hospital, but lost his life soon after. The driver of the Corolla was uninjured during the crash.
Police believe that the operator of the motorcycle ran into the rear of the Corolla. As of the time of this report, it is unclear why that series of events took place. Accident reconstruction specialists are working to evaluate evidence collected from the scene, and may be able to determine the cause of the crash. In some cases, a sudden change in speed, direction or lane of travel in the part of one driver can cause another to run into the rear of a vehicle.
Should the investigation by Massachusetts authorities conclude that the driver of the Corolla was responsible for this fatal auto crash, criminal charges could follow. However, liability in these types of collisions typically rests with the driver of the vehicle that rear ended another vehicle. The surviving families of the two deceased individuals killed may chose to investigate their rights and responsibilities with regard to the crash. From the preliminary accident information, it would appear the immediate surviving family of the deceased passenger has the right to file a civil wrongful death claim against the estate of the motorcycle operator.
